Maxxima are currently looking for a Biomedical Scientist to work in a pathology lab in Cornwall. 

The ideal candidate can start as soon as possible, and will be working an ongoing role with a pay rate between £22-25 per hour.


Job Summary
As a Biomedical Scientist in Pathology the post holder is responsible for the delegated tasks required for the delivery of a fit-for-purpose medical laboratory service analysing and reporting on, blood, urine, faeces and other body materials to achieve the objectives of efficient and effective patient care, and effective resource management within the hospital.
Subject to contract, training and competence assessment, the post holder may discharge analytical duties either working alone or as part of a small team
Main Duties/ Responsibilities
  1. Perform daily routine and specialised diagnostic services on patient and environmental samples containing potentially infectious material. This will be done on a rotational basis using manual and automated techniques to exacting medical and scientific standards according to standard operating procedures.
  1. Perform daily interpretation of diagnostic investigations. Know how to proceed in the event of technical / analytical non conformity and when to inform the line manager.
  1. Accurate and timely entry of data onto the laboratory computer system and/or automated analysers using a VDU and keyboard workstation.
  1. As appropriate record reports for authorisation in electronic form and / or verbally to persons authorised to receive them.
  1. Quality check outputs including maintaining necessary internal records
  1. Participate in external and internal quality assurance schemes and vertical and horizontal audits as directed by senior staff.
  1. Work to meet laboratory performance targets as directed by senior staff
  1. Under supervision, develop and investigate new techniques as required by the changing needs of the service.
  1. To regularly inform and discuss progress of training towards a post registration specialist competence portfolio, with the laboratory training officer and other senior staff as appropriate.
Supporting Tasks
  1. Be aware of stocks of kits reagents and consumables and report stock deficiencies to senior staff.
  1. To participate in appraisals and personal reviews and work to agreed set objectives.
  1. To participate in shifts and out of hour’s services as required.
  1. To undertake phlebotomy as required after suitable training.
