Job description
Maxxima’s permanent team are recruiting for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist, working with acute adult patients and providing overall support for the clinical leadership for the service across two hospital sites.
About the role:
You will provide autonomous specialist assessment, treatment and advice to inpatients across all acute wards with swallowing and communication difficulties. This includes geriatrics, respiratory, cardiology, A&E and admissions units, gastroenterology, surgery, trauma and orthopaedics, endocrine, nephrology.
This is a full time permanent role based at the two hospital sites in Romford and Goodmayes.

- Working alongside other members of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) to give highly specialist guidance, advice and education to on matters relating to your specialist areas.
- Taking the lead in representing SLT at our established weekly complex and palliative nutrition MDT meetings.
- Managing and supporting junior staff on complex ethical feeding decisions alongside the MDT.
- Contributing to the running and development of the Speech and Language service through audit, development of policies, procedures and guidelines using evidence-based practise.
- Autonomously hold responsibility for your own caseload and to assist and monitor the caseload of your wider acute team, across sites.
- Co-ordinate with the clinical lead on caseload management, staffing and operations between teams across both sites in the event of vacancies, sickness or other leave, to ensure practice efficiency and development, including provision of services across relevant days.
- Recognised qualification in Speech and Language Therapy and evidence of continuing professional development.
- Must be HCPC registered.
- Experience in Videofluoroscopy, and/or referring and screening referrals for instrumental assessments.
- Experience managing patients receiving palliative and end of life care.
- Experience managing complex ethical feeding decisions alongside a MDT.
