Maxxima are currently recruiting for a COVID Laboratory Technician in Cambridge.

The successful candidates will be BSc graduate (or final year student) in Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Genetics  The roles operates on a shift pattern, as the lab will operate 24 hours a day. 

The pay rate for this Laboraotry Technician role is £24,000 to £25,000 + depending on experience.

Requirements of this Laboratory Technician vacancy:
  • BSc graduate (or final year student) in Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Genetics
  • Sound knowledge of molecular biology
  • Demonstrable experience working in a biology, biochemistry or chemistry laboratory.
  • An understanding and practical hands-on experience in core laboratory techniques including pipetting samples, sample handling, liquid handling, reagent preparation
  • Working in a laboratory requiring the use of PPE to protect yourself and the integrity of the laboratory
  • Performing biological assays in a scientific research or diagnostic laboratory
  • Working in a laboratory flexibly across multiple projects/assays


Responsibilities of this Laboratory Technician vacancy: 

  • To be one of the foundations of the laboratory handling and processing samples to analyse these for the presence of pathogens (particularly SARS-CoV-2)
  • To undertake this work with precision, having a clear attention to detail appreciating that we get only one chance to process each patient’s sample.
  • To assist in ensuring the right results are delivered every single time.
  • To undertake specific training, re-training and development to be proficient in the processes, standards, SOPs to process, handle, and prepare samples for analysis
  • To assist in the maintenance and cleaning of the laboratory to maintain standards necessary to meet the prevailing standards
  • To assist in counting, reviewing inventory levels of PPE, reagents, and consumables.
