Maxxima’s permanent team are recruiting for a Band 6 Paediatric Physiotherapist, for a NHS Trust based in North London. This is an exciting opportunity to join an integrated care organisation, working in the CYP Intergrated Therapy Department, responsible to the Borough Lead and accountable to the Director of CYP.

The succesful candidate will provide a high standard of physiotherapy assessment, treatment, monitoring and advice for children, famalies and carers. They will act as the physiotherapy representative within the mult-disciplinary teams, provding the specialist advice to other health proffessionals, social care teams, education services and others as necessary.

You will be responsible for organising and prioritising own caseload in order to develop a high standard of physiotherapy assessment and treatment, with support from senior colleagues. You will delegate appropriately to health care assistants, band 5 physiotherapists and physiotherapy students and have organisational knowledge relating to Trust protocols and procedures and adhere to them. You will be responsible for providing accurate records of information required by the Trust for audit purposes and ensuring effective risk management at team level by accident/incident reporting, assessing and controlling risk and ensuring residual risks are added to the Trust register.

On a typical day you will:

Participate in the development of an effective team and the development of productive working relationships throughout the Trust, actively promote integrated health professional working internally and externally, facilitate the development of a positive and ‘supportive’ team culture by taking responsibility for dealing effectively with potential conflict, take an active interest in working parties and groups within the Trust, if appropriate to develop and improve on service delivery, protocols and guidelines, participate in the audit process, linking in with the clinical governance agenda and advise, encourage and share knowledge utilising the latest research and practice development, through literature and peer reviews.
Act as an autonomous, registered practitioner who is legally and professionally accountable for own unsupervised actions guided by the CSP professional code of conduct and Trust guidelines and protocols, be responsible, and accountable, for all aspects of delivering physiotherapy to clients/patients, develop the skills to assess, diagnose and develop individual care/treatment plans for a range of paediatric conditions, some of which will be highly complex or will be for clients with complex psycho-social difficulties, with advice and support from a senior physiotherapist, provide patients and relatives with information and education thus ensuring they have meaningful choices that promote dignity, independence and quality of life, ensure practice is supported by research, evidence based practice, literature and peer review, communicate sensitively with children, parents and carers including clarification of diagnosis and prognosis in situations that can be stressful and/or hostile and maintain a high standard of clinical practice both for self and physiotherapy assistants under your supervision.
Be computer literate and encourage implementation of the Trust’s IM&T Strategy, ensure accurate recording of actions, and updating patient’s records, maintaining confidentiality at all times, take part, and assist, in the planning and administration relating to day to day running of the caseload.
Have a wide range of knowledge in approaches to communicating and managing patient care. In particular, to be able to use a wide range of verbal and non-verbal tools with children of all ages and who may have physical or psychological barriers to communication, effectively communicate with colleagues, peers, senior managers and clinical leads within the Trust, communicate complex patient related information facilitating positive outcomes and ensuring collaborative working and participate in the review and development of clinical policies and identifies improvements to service provision.
Assist in mentoring students and band 5 physiotherapists providing effective education, facilitating their development and promoting high standards of physiotherapy care, in collaboration with senior colleagues, ensure that students, band 5 physiotherapists and assistants are actively supported to enable them to achieve their learning needs, ensure own continued professional development and support a culture of lifelong learning in self and others, undertake, and assist, in the planning of own mandatory training and workshops, undertake a regular appraisal, developing a personal development plan that includes clinical competencies reflecting the health needs of the local population and relates to Trust strategy and support training as part of the role including changes to professional development and implementation of new policies and guidelines.

Skills & Experience:
  • Graduate diploma/degree in Physiotherapy
  • NVQ level 2 or equivalent standard of literacy and numeracy
  • HCPC registration
  • Previous paediatric physiotherapy experience for at least 2 years
  • An awareness of NHS Plan, NSF, and clincial governance priortities
  • Post graduate courses relevant to paediatric physiotherapy
  • CPD experience
  • Experience of supervision of junior staff
