Maxxima’s permanent team are recruiting for a Band 7 Team Lead Paediatric Physiotherapist, based in Birmingham. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the UK’s largest NHS Trusts, working in Children's Physiotherapy, responsible to the Associate AHP Lead.

The successful candidate will be a source of specialist knowledge and provide a highly specialist Children’s Physiotherapy Service to children and young people with complex and specialist needs. The post holder will clinically lead, with colleagues, the pre-school service for children referred to the service, presenting with complex neurological/neuromuscular/orthopaedic conditions and take an advanced role in assessment and treatment of preschool children within the speciality. Additionally, there will be a requirement to lead on service development and provide clinical supervision for staff.

On a typical day you will:
  • Assist with day to day line management to a team of Paediatric Physiotherapy staff within a community setting
  • Plan, co-ordinate, deliver and evaluate paediatric physiotherapy, prioritising the areas for further development
  • Work as an autonomous practitioner, in collaboration with health, education staff, children/young people and their parents, to deliver integrated care to children on the caseload
  • Assist with supervision, education and assessing the performance of physiotherapy staff within the paediatric team, and monitoring individual need accordingly
  • Ensure a high standard of clinical care for the children under your management, adhering to agreed departmental standards, national protocols/policies and the CSP Professional Code of Conduct and support less experienced staff to do likewise
  • Use highly specialist clinical knowledge and experience to undertake the comprehensive assessment and differential diagnosis of children with at times complex physical difficulties/complex multiple pathologies, requiring the ability to make highly specialist clinical decisions
  • Provide this intervention in the most appropriate location for the child and family; this includes domiciliary setting, special schools, mainstream schools, family centres, children’s centres, social services establishments, local hospitals community establishments and the Child Development Centre
  • Advise preschools/schools and other agencies on staff training and development needs to ensure that all staff are competent to implement therapy treatment plans, understand the importance of posture and mobility in it’s widest context and therefore provide supportive environments
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive case notes and records which would stand up to legal scrutiny and provide a full account of the child’s care
  • Be an active member of the in-service training programme by the attendance at and deliverance of presentations and training sessions / tutorials to Physiotherapy staff, Technical Instructors / Physiotherapy Assistants
  • Comply with department standards, providing written communication, by way of comprehensive assessment reports to referring agents, the multidisciplinary team and parents/carers with on-going follow-up reports as deemed necessary by the Clinician
  • Communicate complex patient-related information effectively, ensuring patient confidentiality, working collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team and with colleagues outside the NHS e.g. Education and Social Services to ensure delivery of co-ordinated service
  • Maintain own clinical professional development, and assist others in doing the same, by keeping abreast of new trends and developments, incorporating them into working practice where possible, to ensure the continued development of professional competence/performance, and maintenance of HCPC and Professional registration. To be proactive in seeking learning opportunities both internally and externally to maintain and update specialist knowledge and skills
  • Provide clinical supervision and training to Physiotherapy students on placement, up to and including their final year, supporting the Universities in determining fitness to practice
  • Take a lead role in the organisation and management of specific clinics i.e. team around the child panel and specialist assessments, Neonatal outpatient follow up, ensuring availability of all resources required to perform the tasks
  • Participate in both interviewing and the induction process of new staff and to facilitate their instruction in specialist skills required for the job

  • HCPC registered
