Maxxima are currently recruiting for a Sample Preparation Scientists in Cambridge.

The successful candidates will be experienced in handling human biological samples and working at containment level 2. The roles operates on a shift pattern, please see the possbile shift patterns for this role below. 

In order to be considered for this vacancy, you MUST be able to commit to one of the shift patterns below: 

Shift 1 – Tuesday to Friday; 6.15am – 3.15pm (32 hour working week) [1 hour unpaid break]
Shift 2 – Tuesday to Friday; 3pm – 12am (32 hour working week) [1 hour unpaid break]
Shift 3 – Saturday to Monday; 6.15am – 3.15pm (24 hour working week) [1 hour unpaid break]
Shift 4 – Saturday to Monday; 3pm – 12am (24 hour working week) [1 hour unpaid break]
Shift 5 – Tuesday to Friday; 11.30pm – 6.30am (26 hour working week) [30 mins unpaid break]
Shift 6 – Saturday to Monday; 11.30pm – 6.30am (19.5 hour working week) [30 mins unpaid break]


The pay rate for this Sample Preparation Scientist role is £11 to £13 p/h depending on experience.

Requirements of this vacancy:

  • Strong basis in biosafety, experience with handling human biological samples and working at containment level 2.
  • Educated to degree level within a scientific discipline, or equivalent lab experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and able and willing to perform routine, manual tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • IT literate and confident interacting with a LIMS system
  • Can work with minimal supervision and use logical reasoning when faced with unfamiliar scenarios.
  • Able to demonstrate skills in interpreting and recording results accurately.

Responsibilities of this vacancy: 
  • Work in BSL2 laboratory (Biosafety Level 2)
  • Work with human biological specimens.
  • Work with samples which may contain SARS-Cov-2.
  • Working and communicating across a fast-paced cross organisational team.
  • Strictly following SOPs.
  • Running assays for assessing presence of SARS-Cov-2 in human biological specimens.
  • Tracking of samples using a LIMS system
