Molecular Scientist, PHD students and Laboratory Technicians, join the national endeavour to help combat Covid-19. 

Maxxima are currently recruiting for candidates to work as a Laboratory Technician to undertake Covid-19 testing at multiple locations across the country. This is for an on-going project that involves an initial 2-week deployment in teams to either the North Yorkshire, Lancashire or Suffolk areas. After the 2 week deployment – these teams will then manoeuvre to other locations (as yet, unassigned), so teams will need to be prepared to stay overnight if/when required. Teams will be working in close proximity in purpose-built environment and will be undertaking tasks that require high levels of attention to detail. Potential candidates will undertake Initial training and assessment that will take place in Guildford at a fixed location, likely lasting for 2 days.
Candidates will need to disclose:
  1. which initial area they are best suited to cover (North Yorkshire, Lancashire or Suffolk)
  2. that they are flexible to move locations
  3. That they would be free to undertake training / assessment days in Guildford w/c 16th of November
  4. Can commit to this on-going role until at least April 2021

The successful candidate will be ideally have one year's experience in a diagnostic or research setting undertaking molecular and laboratory techniques including:

Essential Skills
- RNA Extraction
- Setting up qPCR (ideally at 384 well scale and programming machines)
- Experience working in Biosafety cabinets

Principle Responsibilities
- Sample Setup
- Manuel Pippetting
- Plate Preparation
- PCR Reaction Mixtures
- Operation of PCR Instrumentation

Desirable Skills 
- Programming and using automated liquid platforms
-  Cat 2 Level experience with human biological Samples

The Pay rate for this role is between £22k - 24k per annum

Requirements of this Laboratory Technician vacancy:
  • HCPC registration NOT essential
  • 1 Year's Laboratory experience
  • Molecular Biology experience
  • Able to work shifts
