Maxxima are currently recruiting for a Biomedical Scientist in Microbiology to fill a Part time Locum role in the North  to start ASAP; we will consider candidates from band 6 to band 8.

We hope the successful applicant would be available for an immediate start, although to begin with this can be
on a flexible consultancy basis. You will initially be in charge of remote/virtual working with our lab team, but
this would expand to a more hands-on role in future as you develop the lab services. Hours are negotiable but
would be either 1-2 hours per day or full-time on one to two days per week to begin with. No out of hours

The successful applicant should have a strong understanding of UKAS and quality within a clinical laboratory,
together with a drive and determination to improve laboratory processes. We hope the successful applicant
would also have an appetite for getting involved in other activities such as business development, staff
development and academic collaboration with research teams in both London, Scotland, and USA.
You would be the supervising scientist in charge of a small team of in-house lab staff whose duties currently

• Performing routine and specialist analytical testing on a range of biological samples
• Giving test results to medical staff, who use the information to diagnose and treat the patients.
• Processing patient samples in good time
• Identifying abnormal or unexpected results and reporting back to you the supervising BMS/ follow up
with requesting clinicians.
• Maintaining and running lab equipment
• Maintaining and ordering stocks of materials
• Accurately recording data, writing reports, and sharing results
• Supporting the lab's quality management system and observing all relevant health and safety
• Keeping their professional knowledge up to date and taking responsibility for overseeing their
continuing professional development (CPD).
• Using a variety of biochemical methods to determine organisms that cause infection
• Collaborating and liaising with other labs, research, and clinical colleagues
• Ensuring accurate recording, analysis, and interpretation of data
• Collaborating in academic research projects, reports and reviews

Requirements of this Biomedical Scientist vacancy:
  • HCPC registration
  • 1-2 Year's post reg laboratory experience
  • Experience in bacteriology essential
