Job description

Maxxima’s permanent team are recruiting for a Speech and Language Therapist, based in South Manchester.
This is an exciting opportunity join a dynamic multidisciplinary team working to support and champion the communication needs of young people with social, emotional and mental health needs. 
You will work alongside dedicated school staff and share their passion for advocating for young people.
You will be involved in a range of varied activities including direct intervention with individuals and groups of young people, primarily in school and college settings. You will provide assessments and reports, coaching, training and mentoring for professionals, front-line staff and families.

Salary: £35,789.38 from 1 April 2023.  Displayed salary has already been pro-rated to working weeks per year.

Hours: 37.5 per week

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • To assume responsibility for the initial assessment of student's communication and eating and drinking skills on application to college
  • To manage a caseload of students with complex communication needs and dysphagia (if dysphagia qualified)
  • To liaise with parents, families and carers, and advise on issues relating to communication skills and dysphagia needs (if dysphagia qualified)
  • To identify training needs within the college and provide training for other members of the staff team to ensure communication strategies can be consistently embedded across college
  • To ensure that professional guidelines and Trust policies and procedures are followed and undertake appropriate risk assessment.
  • To line manage and supervise members of the SALT team and SALT students
Required Qualifcations and Experience:
  • Recognised professional qualification
  • Registered member of RCSLT and HCPC
  • Qualification in clinical education for undergraduate SALT students
  • Post basic dysphagia qualification 
  • Experience of working with adults with learning disabilities and autism
  • Experience of developing and delivering training
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of supervising more junior staff 
  • Minimum 3 years post graduate therapy experience in related areas including band 6 level in relevant clinical speciality
