We are currently looking for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Microbiology, who can provide overall support for the clinical leadership of the service. This post is based in Bedford, which is easily accessible via public transport.
 
About the role:
As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, you will be working  in an NHS lab with state of the art facilities, provide a high level of microbiological analysis to provide patients with the highest level of diagnosis and treatment.

Your main responsibilities as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist:

• Deliver a high quality, efficient and effective service, through the Quality Management System [QMS]
• Implement policies and procedures ensuring that the service complies with current UKAS standards, national and European legislation and discipline specific regulatory bodies
• Train scientific and support staff
• Monitor and review equipment, its maintenance, performance monitoring and EQA is completed and recorded in a timely way
• Provide specialist knowledge and skills in the department for operational and technical support and advice in result production and interpretation for tests conducted
• Entering patient data, issue results and reports in accordance with agreed policy and in a timely fashion
• Utilise knowledge & skills for research and development in the evaluation of Microbiology equipment and new methodology, contributing to the report that includes statistical analysis of data with graphical representation to aid the decision making process

What we are looking for in a Specialist Biomedical Scientist:

• BSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent and demonstrable experience at BMS level
• HCPC State Registration
• IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Medical Microbiology or equivalent
• Specialised knowledge of Microbiology (Bacteriology and Virology)
• Awareness of serological and molecular techniques
